The coaches at the Speeders Track Club have a passion for sprinting, and all are former or current track athletes. They have deep experience coaching sprints and working with athletes of all ages and skill levels.
Brendon Kensel
Head Track Coach
Brendon founded the Speeders Track Club in 2014 to give back to a sport that was good to him and to build a community of youth sprinters. Over the years Brendon has helped develop and train hundreds of youth track athletes.
Brendon is a certified USA Track & Field Level 1 coach. He has continued his education in short sprints through ALTIS, an elite training environment for athletes, and a global leader of education in sport performance. Brendon was a collegiate sprinter at Central Washington University and ran the 400m and the 4x400m relay. When not coaching, he is a CEO at a fintech start-up.
Brendon received a B.S. from Central Washington University and a M.B.A. from the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University. He studied global enterprise management at Kellogg College, University of Oxford, and leader development at the U.S. Army War College.
Zion Corrales-Nelson
Assistant Head Track Coach
Zion is an accomplished track and field athlete and coach. She has coached several high school programs, including Corona Del Mar, Servite, and Rosary Academy. In the past two years, she has been part of a CIF State Championship team (Servite ’25) and has guided multiple athletes to the State Championships.
As a professional athlete, Zion competes for the Philippine National Team in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, where she is the national record holder in all three events. Since the age of 14, she has proudly represented the Philippines in numerous World Championships, Youth Olympics, and international tours.
During her collegiate career at UC Berkeley and USC, Zion was a National Champion (’21), an All-American, Academic All-American, and school record holder. Zion earned her B.A. in Business and Law from UC Berkeley and went on to complete two master’s degrees at USC: a Master of Studies in Law and a Master of Business and Entrepreneurship.
Armond Gray Jr.
Jumps & Track Coach
Armond is a detail-oriented sprints and jumps coach with experience as both a collegiate athlete and coach. He competed in the long jump and triple jump for four years at Chapman University, earning All-SCIAC honors.
Over the past four years, he has coached at Servite High School and Rosary Academy, where his athletes have broken the girls’ long jump and triple jump school records as well as the boys’ triple jump school record. His coaching has produced 10 CIF-SS finalists across long, triple, and high jump, including five top-three finishers and one CIF- SS champion. He has also led two athletes to the CIF State Championships and contributed to Servite’s 2025 CIF State Championship title. His coaching experience also includes serving as a graduate assistant at USC, where he assisted the head jumps coach with practice planning and specialized in long and triple jump development. During his time at USC, he helped coach three Pac-12 champions, each of whom went on to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as well.
Armond earned his B.S. in Kinesiology from Chapman University and his M.S. in Biokinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Science from USC. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Physical Therapy at USC, set to graduate May 2026.
Terrell Bynum
Speed & Strength Coach
Terrell is a lifelong track and football athlete, rising from the youth to professional ranks. He enjoys sharing his experiences to help develop youth athletes.
A multi-sport athlete at St. John Bosco High School, Terrell excelled in both football and track, and in 2016 was a member of the Open Division California State Championship football team. Terrell played college football for the Washington Huskies and USC Trojans. He garnered All-Pac-12 honorable mention recognition as a redshirt senior. After college, Terrell played in the NFL for the LA Chargers and briefly for the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders.
Terrell received a B.S. in Communications from the from the University of Washington and a Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Southern California.
Gavin Shappell
Speed Coach
Gavin is a performance coach with experience training athletes from youth through the professional level, including NFL players, collegiate athletes, and high-school programs. He specializes in speed development, movement mechanics, and strength training, with a coaching style that balances technical precision and athlete confidence.
Through his private coaching business, Gavin has worked with a wide range of athletes across football, lacrosse, volleyball, and general sport development. In addition to his private work, he also served as Associate Director of Sports Performance at D1 Training Huntington Beach, where he coached hundreds of youth athletes in large-group settings. While the two roles were independent, the closure of D1 pushed Gavin to refine his small-group and individualized coaching philosophy, allowing him to combine technical detail with adaptable, confidence-building strategies for athletes at every level.
A former football player at Golden West College, Gavin is pursuing a B.S. in Kinesiology at California State University, Long Beach. He has expanded his expertise through advanced education in Olympic weightlifting with USA Weightlifting, sprint and performance training with ALTIS, Functional Range Conditioning, and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization.
Juwan Haynes
Track Coach
Juwan is an experienced sports performance coach, positions coach, and stunt athletic performer with a passion for developing athletes at every level—from youth to professional. Since 2022, Juwan has been a sports performance coach at Equinox Newport Beach.
A multi-sport athlete in high school, Juwan excelled in football, basketball, and track, competing in the 200m, 400m, and 4x400m relay. In college Juwan played cornerback for the University of Toledo for four years, graduating with a B.A. in Communications. After college Juwan played in the National Arena League and in the Austrian Football League, where he earned All-Star honors in 2021. He also had tryouts with the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, and Atlanta Falcons.
Juwan is currently pursuing a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In addition to coaching, Juwan is also a stunt athletic performer and actor and was recently featured in the hit CW Network show All American.
Braden
Track Coach, Juniors
Braden launched the Juniors team in 2023 to help introduce younger athletes to sprinting. Braden raced with the Speeders Track Club from first grade through eighth grade, and in his last season he was on the 4x100m relay team that qualified for USATF regionals. He is now a Senior at JSerra High School.
James
Track Coach, Juniors
James is a founding coach of the Juniors team. James joined the Speeders Track Club as an athlete as a fifth grader and in his eighth-grade year he was the Southern California SCMAF champion in the 100m and 200m. He is now a Senior at Newport Harbor High School.
